The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Sheep and Cattle are currently under review and public submissions have been requested.
In its submissions last week to the review, Vegan Australia called for the Australian Government to really make the welfare of animals the primary goal of the standards, by enforcing that animals not be used in any way.
Vegan Australia uses opportunities such as this to call for the abolition of the use of all animals, including cows and sheep. We believe that it is important that the vegan message be made using every available channel.
There will be many submissions to this review calling for stronger standards for welfare and better enforcement of the standards, but very few submissions will point out that the only way to end the pain and suffering of breeding, raising and killing these animals is to end our use of them.
We see the role of Vegan Australia as being a consistent voice delivering a clear message for the animals.
