Last year animal rights organisation, Animal Liberation, exposed shocking footage from an abattoir in Wilberforce, NSW revealing excessive use of electric prodders, beating of pigs with metal poles, and the killing of conscious animals after failed stunning attempts.

This abattoir now faces nine charges of animal cruelty and one worker is being charged for beating a pig with a metal pole.

Now, Animal Liberation has exposed brutality at another abattoir, this time at an Ingham’s poultry slaughterhouse in Tahmoor, NSW. Footage shows routine beatings- kicking, punching and kneeing of turkeys. Workers are seen dancing with turkeys and one worker was filmed repeatedly jumping on an animal’s head. These are not mere ‘incidences’, these are intentional acts to cause harm and pain to these animals. This footage is further evidence that abuse to animals in domestic abattoirs is a systemic issue.

The footage also depicts another serious welfare issue specific to turkeys, where legs sometimes rip off the large animal’s body. This footage reveals that shackling is totally inappropriate for such large animals.

Recently the Australian Greens introduced a bill for mandatory CCTV in all NSW abattoirs in hope that cruelty such as that seen at Hawkesbury Valley Meats does not reoccur.

Please collect signatures and send to our office. (Please note that because this petition is going to Parliament it needs to be in hard copy format with all details including addresses completed).

Animal Liberation is a registered charity and relies totally on public donations to run campaigns such as this. Please consider giving generously to help stop this extreme animal cruelty.
